A brief description of Hypnosis
Misconceptions about Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a very safe and well known complementary therapy which helps you to connect with your subconscious mind.
There are still misconceptions about the concept. When hearing the word hypnosis or hypnotherapy, many people think of stage hypnosis, where the hypnotist makes the person act like a chicken. But that is actually for entertainment and it has nothing to do with clinical hypnosis.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a focused and deep relaxed state. When you are hypnotised, you become highly suggestible. You are aware of your surroundings and have focused attention. This results in total control. You are deeply relaxed, you hear, smell and feel everything. This experience is like daydreaming. The only difference is that in hypnosis a hypnotist is talking throughout the experience. The focus is on the hypnotist’s voice who is making positive suggestions. These suggestions are carried out then, after waking up straight away or at a later time. Here, I would like to point out that you will not do anything you do not want to do, or anything inappropriate. Should this happen, you will either come out of the trance or reject the suggestion completely.
Connection with the inner world
The hypnotic state allows you to have a connection with your unconscious mind. The difference between the conscious and the unconscious mind is that the latter knows everything but not aware of it at present. It stores your memories. The conscious mind is aware of everything at present. The connection between the two minds makes it easier to find the inner self. Once you are able to have this connection with your thoughts and feelings, you’ll be able to live a balanced and improved life by learning more about yourself.
Resourcefulness
Hypnosis allows you to become more resourceful in any situation and to make appropriate decisions. This increases your abilities and choices. You will have willpower to reach your goals and to become successful. You can solve problems, especially long-term problems in your life. Finding yourself helps to build your self-belief, self-love and confidence thus remove limitations such as anger, sadness, guilt, grudge, shame or any other negative feelings, phobia, fear and bad habits. Hypnosis can help in many ways. It is quite popular in people with weight management problems, anxiety, skin disorders such as eczema, allergies and IBS. It is extremely useful for relaxation; it helps to reduce stress levels and it controls pain.
