Visualisation – Seeing Yourself at Your Best

I would like to introduce you to something that you do naturally, but perhaps not utilising it and use it to your own advantages. Visualisation.

The pictures, the movies you have and see in your mind.

What is visualisation?

Visualisation is the process that you do inside your head, using your mind’s eye. You see the world, the pictures, the movies mentally.

How can it be effective?

To answer this question, I need to explain your mind in more detail.

There are two important part of your mind, the conscious mind, and the subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is the logical mind, you think and reason with this mind, using your 5 senses (smell, taste, touch, see, hear). This part of your mind is aware at present, and has the ability to accept or reject any idea.

The subconscious part of your mind is the emotional mind. You feel emotions with this mind and express those emotions through your body by behaviours and actions.

In this part of your mind, time and space doesn’t exist, and your subconscious mind has no ability to reject ideas, only accept.

I’d like to emphasise, time and space dose not exist in your subconscious mind, hence the effectiveness of visualisation.

The second you enter your inner world, you see with your mind’s eye, and you lose time and space. You see a picture or a movie, and your subconscious mind has no idea whether you think of a memory, it’s actually happening or imagining a future event.

This is exactly why you can make things happen, and change things in your life by focusing your attention on a chosen picture or movie of yourself.

How can I visualise?

At first, I would recommend closing your eyes, so make sure you can safely do that in a relaxing position.

Take a deep breath, and as you exhale, allow yourself to relax. Close your eyes, and see yourself in a way that you want to be.

An important point here is seeing yourself behaving and acting, and not seeing through your eyes.

Do you want to be more confident? How would you walk, talk, interact with more confidence? See yourself that way.

Do you want to be healthier, fitter? How would you look like? What activities would you be able to do? See yourself in that way.

Do you want to be calmer and more understanding with others? How would you behave? What would you say in challenging situations? See yourself that way.

You can use visualisation for every part of your life, for whatever you want to improve.

Remember, the present result in your life IS the production of your current visualisation. If you want to change your result, you need to change what you have in your mind.

For how long should I visualise?

I would say that this depending on individual needs. I usually visualise for 15 – 20 minutes, but I make sure that I continue to see myself in the desired way throughout the day. This means I see myself having the goal often for a few seconds.

I consciously control how I see myself and what I see in my mind, blocking out distraction continuously, and reprogramming my mind for better results.

The main thing here is repetition. You have to impress the new desired You on to your subconscious mind over and over again until it sinks deep, and starts to happen.

Do not become disheartened if you don’t see physical result quickly. Trust that the shift is happening internally, the inside of you is changing before it can change the outside.

Be patient and trust yourself and the process.
